ORGANIC PRODUCTION

The objectives of ecological winegrowing are maintaining and increasing the natural fertility of the soil with appropriate cultivation measures, while avoiding all measures that are contrary to that objective, such as excessive soil cultivation, the use of synthetic herbicides and easily soluble synthetic fertilisers. This type of cultivation stimulates the diversity of plant and animal species within the vineyard, with the aim of reducing the consequences of monoculture and achieving conditions in the vineyard that are similar to those in natural ecosystems.

The purpose of improving biodiversity is to achieve better self-regulation within the vineyard, which implies the creation of prey-predator-parasite food chains and antagonistic relations between various organisms, which regulates the number of individual organisms in a population and thus contributes to the reduction in pests and diseases. The ecological treatment of our estate considerably reduces soil and water pollution and enables the production of high-quality grapes as the raw material for high-quality wine.
The exceptional pedoclimatic conditions of our vineyards (Mediterranean climate and rocky soil) creates the perfect environment for organic production.

Thanks to reduced soil cultivation and the use of exclusively organic fertilisers (prescribed by the laws of the Republic of Croatia and the EU on ecological production), we greatly contribute to the development of the microflora of the soil and to the increase in natural biodiversity. This results in low use of plant protection agents, which in turn makes it possible to use indigenous yeasts for must fermentation giving our wines the unique character of the climate and place from where it originates. Considering that man is an integral part of nature, careful managing of natural resources will also help to ensure a more secure existence for man by providing more favourable and healthier living conditions, to which we contribute with our ecological treatment of plants.

Our Estate has been managed organically since the very start. This allowed us to protect the purity of our soil, which before cultivation, was overgrown with various wild plants and local shrubs.
